The Castelo de Pedras Altas is located in the Brazilian municipality of Pedras Altas , in the state of Rio Grande do Sul . Built between 1909 and 1913 , in a medieval style , the castle was built for the diplomat Joaquim Francisco de Assis Brasil , who transformed his farm into a modern field property, playing an important role in agriculture in the state of Rio Grande do Sul . In 1999 , Pedras Altas was listed by the State Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute . In October 2009 , the Federation of Agriculture of the State (Farsul) decided to raise funds for the restoration of the building, estimated at 5.6 million reais . Degradation threatens the castle's collection, which contains a large library , and limits the number of visitors. There is a project to transform it into a cultural center in the future.
