Mikhail Varshavski, D.O.[1] (Russian: Михаил Варшавский; born November 12, 1989), commonly known as Mike Varshavski or Doctor Mike, is a Russian-born American internet celebrity and family medicine physician. His Instagram account went viral after he was featured in BuzzFeed and in People magazine's 2015 issue of The Sexiest Doctor Alive. He has a YouTube channel that provides medically themed entertainment. Varshavski was born on November 12, 1989,[2][3] in Saransk, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union (now Russia) to a Jewish family.[4][5] He has an older sister, Dasha, and nephews named Daniel, Steven, and Ari.[6] His father was a physician, a graduate of the Third Medical Institute of Moscow,[7] In early 2012, Varshavski joined Instagram to document his life as a medical student and combat the notion that "you can't have a life in medical school".[9][15][16] He has said that he was not popular in high school and struggled to talk to girls, and that he was disorganized and unable to speak well in public.[9] In college, however, he committed himself to learning how to talk to girls and put himself outside of his comfort zone, including reading the book How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie.[9]
