Monkey D. Dragon,[7] commonly known as the "World's Worst Criminal", is the infamous Supreme Commander (総司令官 Sōshireikan?)[4] of the Revolutionary Army who has been attempting to overthrow the World Government.[3] He is the father of Monkey D. Luffy and the son of Monkey D. Garp. Dragon is a tall middle-aged man with spiky black hair with a widow's peak and a tattoo on the left side of his face, which is colored dark red in the anime and bright red in the manga. He has a bit of stubble on his chin. He is usually dressed in a long green cloak, underneath which he wears the orange garb of a revolutionary. He is most often seen sporting a grin. Only on rare occasions, such as at Roger's execution, has Dragon not been seen smiling. 22 years before the start of the series, at Gol D. Roger's execution, Dragon did not have his tattoo or his stubble on his face. After the timeskip, Dragon's hair has grown slightly longer - reaching down his back past his shoulders.

Marco is the former first division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. He ate a Mythical Zoan type Devil Fruit which allows him to transform into a phoenix at will. After his captain's death, Marco assumed leadership of the Whitebeard Pirates until the crew's disbandment following the Payback War. Since said war during the two-year timeskip, Marco works as a doctor at Whitebeard's home village, Sphinx. Little is known about Marco's past , but he has been around for various important events. Marco appears to be one of the older members of the Whitebeard Pirates, as he is seen when Shiki first visits Whitebeard , and he is the 1st divison commander . He was the first to befriend Portgas D Ace , and talk him into joining them , even protesting Ace leaving to find Teach. Marco was also present when Shanks arrived to talk to Whitebeard, and later fought at Marineford to save Ace. After the death of Whitebeard, Marco was the highest ranked member of the crew . As the former commander of the 1st division of the Whitebeard Pirates, Marco is a very strong and powerful individual, as he demonstrated in the war that he was on a similar level of fighting as the three admirals. He was fully capable of fighting admirals Kizaru, Aokiji, and Akainu while holding his own.
