When it seemed sports cars were dead and gone in the late '70s, along comes this simple Japanese-made, rotary-powered two-seater to reignite the passion.
Porsche built 25 917s for homologation in 1969. It won Le Mans in 1970 and 1971, only losing when the rules changed. The 917 still holds the Le Mans fastest lap record.
