Since the British weren't building small sports cars, Mazda decided it would build a small British sports car in Japan — and it became the best-selling sports car in history.
It was just a Le Mans with a big 389 V8 under its hood, some fancy redecoration on its flanks and a name stolen from Ferrari. It was the first of the muscle cars.
