The AC Ace was a boring English sports car with a half-hearted Bristol engine. Carroll Shelby put the small-block Ford V8 in it and created a legend.
With their 3.8-liter turbo V6s, the all-black Buicks ruled the street in the 1980s. They were also the first and only American muscle cars powered by something other than a big V8.
