The AC Ace was a boring English sports car with a half-hearted Bristol engine. Carroll Shelby put the small-block Ford V8 in it and created a legend.
Porsche built 25 917s for homologation in 1969. It won Le Mans in 1970 and 1971, only losing when the rules changed. The 917 still holds the Le Mans fastest lap record.
