Vorticism
Vorticism was a London-based modernist art movement formed in 1914 by the writer and artist Wyndham Lewis. Lewis was never likely to be successful in attempting to harness the extraordinary talents of a very disparate group of avant-garde artists; however, for a brief period Vorticism was an energising intervention and a riposte to Marinetti’s Futurist manifesto and the post-Impressionism of Roger Fry’s Omega Workshops. In a Vorticist painting, modern life is shown as an array of bold lines and harsh colours drawing the viewer's eye into the centre of the canvas.
