The AC Ace was a boring English sports car with a half-hearted Bristol engine. Carroll Shelby put the small-block Ford V8 in it and created a legend.
A true postwar design, the '49 Ford used a dramatically lower envelope body without running boards or fenders distinctly separate from the hood's sweep. Every other car would follow.
