The AC Ace was a boring English sports car with a half-hearted Bristol engine. Carroll Shelby put the small-block Ford V8 in it and created a legend.
The first car with truly interchangeable parts, it was declared the "Standard of the World" for the quality of its components. Without this precision, there are no cars today.
