Aan Taanu was a demon who was once the master of Omen. He was summoned and worshiped by the 'Beyond Reason Spiritual Fellowship' and possessed the dragon Fin Fang Foom. Aan Taanu's plan was to begin a new race of demons with the human woman called Hildreth, but the plan was ruined by Legion of Night. Aardvark was mutated by Roger Fieldston. Roger had the power to activate latent mutations in anybody he touched. The mutations were often severe and grotesque. Roger had his powers reversed by Captain Universe after he accidentally mutated several people, causing them to riot. Roger went to seek out those he had mutated so he could take their powers away.
